Backpack.tf, the God of trading websites

TF2 Trading Websites, a guide to Backpack.tf

There are many websites out there traders can use in order to maximize their chances to snatch some juicy deals. Today, we will be looking at the holy grail of trading websites known as Backpack.tf!

Backpack.tf

Now that we understand how TF2’s currency system works, it’s time to look at Backpack.tf. I have been using it since 2015 and have found most of my profit opportunities on this website. Created as a side project in 2012, it has since become the biggest website relating to TF2 trading. TF2 item prices are basically dictated by the Backpack.tf community. Users can create and vote on Price Suggestions and if there is sufficient proof, these price suggestions will be accepted into the economy.

If you type backpack.tf on your browser, this is the page that will show up. Don’t be overwhelmed by all the shiny buttons, we are just going to look at the basics.

The first thing you probably noticed, is this:

This section of the page lets you know the current value of refined in cents, keys in refined, and Earbuds in keys. If you’re wondering what earbuds are doing here, they were previously used as an official currency to the TF2 economy but were discontinued in 2015, due to their unstable nature.

How to find items on backpack.tf?

Finding specific items can be tricky when you're not familiar with the Bp.tf interface. To find the "item search bar" you must go under the Trading tab, and select "Classified Listings"

Once you have done that, the classifieds page should be displayed, and you can now search for any item in existence! You'll want to always use the Advanced search option if you want to look for more specific items, such as an Australium Professional Killstreak Sniper Rifle for instance.

Once you've entered the criteria for your search, you should be met with what is known as the Listings page. On the left, you have Sell orders and on the right you have Buy orders. When traders put up their items for sale on the website, these items will show up on the Sell orders. If you look at the picture below, you can see that the cheapest Pro Ks Australium Sniper is being sold for 34 keys.
People can also post buy orders, which basically translate to "I can buy your item for this price".

I hope this section of the TF2TradeTrain has helped you understand how backpack.tf works, if you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment, and I will gladly help you. See you guys on the next post!
